Alive & Well in Yellowstone

It has been a while since I have posted & I have a lot of catching up to do with everyone. I am living in Grant Village in the southern loop of Yellowstone. The cell & wifi signal here is almost nonexistent for me. I have trouble receiving & sending calls, emails & texts. If I haven’t responded to anyone, please accept my apologies.

The first day I reported to work, there was a whiteout with blizzard conditions. It normally takes an hour & 30 minutes to get to Grant Village from West Yellowstone; however, it took about six hours this day due to weather & accidents.

I arrived at my campsite & the snow was almost waist high! I had to dig out the electric hookup with a shovel.

The next day I woke up with what I thought was a cold. I was sick for almost two weeks with a cough & sore throat before finding out it was most likely from the high altitude & dry air here. The elevation in Grant Village is about 7,800 feet.

A few days later, I started to feel worse & went to one of the medical clinics here in the park. Unfortunately, I found out I had COVID. Because my oxygen level was so low, I had to drive to a lower elevation until it improved. I stayed in Bozeman until I was healthy enough to go back to Yellowstone.

I am feeling much better, but still am very hoarse & have a nagging cough. I went back to work this past week, so I am making progress.

I hope that all of you are healthy & having a good summer. It has been in the 40s here the last couple of days & we are supposed to have snow tonight. I will think about you trying to stay cool while I have my heat & fireplace running!

Hi! I am Christi, a full-time RV traveller since August 2021. I have always loved to travel, but COVID-19 put a stop to that. I was fast approaching 50, my condo was being placed up for sale and I was ready for a major change. Originally from a tiny town in rural Southwest Virginia, I am the mother to one son and a rescue Shih Tzu, Cappy. For the last 20 years, I worked in public library systems around the Charlotte & Myrtle Beach areas. I met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. Follow along on my adventures as I travel the US. I hope that our paths will cross one day!

  5. OMG, the cool must be difficult- It was 104F on our tour to the Sea of Galilee Saturday, dry, but still too hot for me- then, it dropped to 82F back in Nazareth.

I’m staying busy washing artefacts on The Shikhin Excavation. It’s an interesting vacation with lots of learning – lectures daily, work on the site, 4 meals/day heavy with veges and weekend tours.

My biggest accomplishment is learning to use the local & intercity bus with the app ‘Moovit’. Two of us got to Akko or Acre and back for about $20 & saw the World Heritage UNESCO a site where the Crusaders came in to take Jerusalem.

  7. So scared . Thought you were in the hospital . Happy to hear you are getting better. Today I am seeing mud slides and flooding has all the entrances closed to the park. Crazy weather out there. So hot here. Heat index today will be about 110 degrees. Stay dry and we’ll.

So glad to hear from you, although our friend CC has been keeping me posted, sorry to hear you were so sick, what weather and altitude condition’s you’re under now, WOW, will you have to drive everyday to get to work?? Yikes, that’s a hike, 11/2 hours of driving, well, keep the snow shovel close and the fireplace burning, glad you’re feeling better, stay warm and be safe 😊❤️… Hope to hear from you soon with another adventure!! 😊

  9. Christi, great to hear, when at the library last Friday I was talking to Janice about you and she gave me the update. Being at a higher altitude does take some time to adjust. We found that out when we moved to CO. I say on the news today there is flooding in Yellowstone and if I read it correctly the park is closed. Hopefully you are ok. George

  10. Saw on TV about heavy rain and flooding in Yellowstone, and they had to shut the whole park down. Hope there is no flooding where you are staying?

  15. Was just about to call out the nation guard, so glad you are doing better. I would not have figured the weather to be that bad this time of the year. Hope the rest of your stay there is not as rough and that you enjoy the experience and wonders of nature. Take care, think of you often, Love Kathy
