Wine, Wine…& More Wine in Montalcino, Italy

During our trip to Tuscany, we stopped at a family owned winery in Montalcino.

Montalcino is world renowned for two wines produced in Tuscany: Brunello di Montalcino & Rosso di Montalcino.

One of the winery owners led us into the cellar to see how & where their Brunello di Montalcino wines were aged. It was fascinating to learn about the winemaking process.

Our lunch consisted of three courses paired with Brunello di Montalcino wines. The table was crowded with glasses ready to be filled with wine!

We were seated with a lovely newlywed couple from Canada.  We enjoyed the conversation as much as the lunch.

Most of the ingredients were grown on the vineyard farm.  The pasta was handmade using the family’s 300 year old recipe.

The Aglione garlic (pictured above) used in our pasta is a giant garlic variety from the Valdichiana Senese area. It is also called the “aglio del bacio” or “kissing garlic” because it is mild, odourless & easy to digest.

If you ever have the chance to sample any of the wines from Tuscany, I would highly recommend savoring each glass.

Salute & mangia!

I was fast approaching 50, my condo was being placed up for sale and I was ready for a major change. For the last 20 years, I worked in public library systems around the Charlotte & Myrtle Beach areas. I met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. Follow along on my adventures as I travel the US. I hope that our paths will cross one day!
