Kansas State Capitol, Topeka

Completed in 1903, the Kansas Capitol is 17 feet higher than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

While traveling, there are so many places you can go that are free.  It is amazing what is out there just waiting to be discovered.  The Kansas Capitol is one of these places and I even had a guided tour!

Larry was a fabulous, enthusiastic guide.  He’s been giving tours for more than 20 years.  He is also a former band director & music teacher.  He serenaded me several times, including the state song, Home on the Range.
This is a collage of the videos I took in the Capitol.  The artwork is stunning.

I was able to visit the House of Representatives, Senate, State Library, Old Supreme Court & State Library on the tour. You can see all of these in the above video.

  2. Oh, how I love viewing your posts!! And this one of the John Brown painting is especially poignant because my cousin, Phil Ehart, chose it for the album cover for his band, KANSAS, first record. I just sent your blog on to him! I haven’t been to the capitol in decades and I am feeling sentimental about my home state now. Thank you, Christi! We miss you😍

    1. Aww! I am so glad that you are enjoying them. I have a lot of fun going places and seeing things. It gives me a new perspective when I put the posts together. Larry the tour guide sang a song about John Brown when we stopped at that mural! Give Coco a hug for me!

  4. I like seeing a place with a guided tour. I usually feel like I’ve learned a lot. I don’t usually think of state capitols as having guided tours, so I will have to keep this in mind.
