Here’s Johnny!

The Johnny Carson Gallery @ Elkhorn Valley Museum

Norfolk, Nebraska

After leaving Tekamah, my next stop was in Norfolk, Nebraska at the Elkhorn Valley Museum.  They had a section of the museum dedicated to Johnny Carson, who grew up in Norfolk.

Over his three decades on The Tonight Show, Carson interviewed over 24,000 guests.

On a trip home in 1982, Johnny’s former teacher Fay Gordon helps him brush up on his penmanship. Johnny returned again in 1996 to help Gordon celebrate her 100th birthday.

Question: What would you like your epitaph to be?

Carson: I’ll be right back.

Hi! I am Christi, a full-time RV traveller since August 2021. I have always loved to travel, but COVID-19 put a stop to that. I was fast approaching 50, my condo was being placed up for sale and I was ready for a major change. Originally from a tiny town in rural Southwest Virginia, I am the mother to one son and a rescue Shih Tzu, Cappy. For the last 20 years, I worked in public library systems around the Charlotte & Myrtle Beach areas. I met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. Follow along on my adventures as I travel the US. I hope that our paths will cross one day!

    1. They had some of his Carnac the Magnificent answers:

      – Three Dog Night – What is a bad night for a tree?

      – Hiatus – What do you say when you are introduced to an atus?

      – Sis Boom Bah – Describe the sound a sheep makes when it explodes.

      – Boop Boop Bee Doo – What do you look for when tracking a Boop Boop Bee?

      – The La Brea Tarpits – What do you get after you eat La Brea Tar Peaches?

  3. Thanks, Christi! Enjoyed watching the video and reading about him. In 1965 I went to NYC for the first time and the adults had gotten tickets to Johnny Carson Show, no kids allowed I guess or it was too late. Anyway, they got a big kick out of it.

  5. What great memories these photos, video and stories of Johnny Carson bring back! The times we spent watching Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show were each a special time. I think that anyone who was at an age where they could watch that show, will always remember and miss Johnny Carson,
