The Third Time is the Charm:  Glacier National Park

It hasn’t been the easiest spring/summer this year, but it has improved by leaps and bounds.  After beginning work at Yellowstone & venturing to St. Mary. Montana, I have now landed in Glacier National Park.  I am living in Glacier at the Apgar Campground & working as a shuttle driver on the Going to the Sun Road.

One of the stunning views along the Going to the Sun Road.

Glacier National Park is one of the greenest places I have ever seen.  There are so many shades of green throughout the park, including trees, grasses, flowers & mosses.

Living in Glacier National Park

Here is a look at my home in Apgar Campground. I will be living here through the beginning of October.

The weather couldn’t be better. Mornings are cool and in the 50’s. The days warm up into the 70’s & 80’s. Yesterday was a scorcher with a high of 88. My favorite part—no humidity! I can understand now why people love the Pacific Northwest.

Working in Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park offers free shuttle service to visitors 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm.  I begin work every morning & drive from Apgar Village to Logan Pass. The rest of my day is shuttling passengers up and down the west side of Going to the Sun Road from Avalanche to Logan Pass. This winding road has more than 100 curves & is nicknamed as the “Crown Jewel” of scenic drives in Montana. It is not for the faint of heart.

Follow my route with the green bus symbols.

Watch the video below & experience what it is like driving the Going to the Sun Road.

These are some of the highlights along my route. Every day is new and you never know what animals you may see along the way. I have spotted lots of deer, chipmunks, marmot, mountain goats & bighorn sheep.

I have met some wonderful people on the shuttle, including another park employee. Originally from Oregon, Keegan is a park botanist during the summer. Thr rest of the year he teaches science in….Durham, NC! We had a great conversation about the Durham Performing Arts Center & the best places to eat around town.

I am looking forward to sharing my adventures this summer.

Take care & “see” you soon!

Hi! I am Christi, a full-time RV traveller since August 2021. I have always loved to travel, but COVID-19 put a stop to that. I was fast approaching 50, my condo was being placed up for sale and I was ready for a major change. Originally from a tiny town in rural Southwest Virginia, I am the mother to one son and a rescue Shih Tzu, Cappy. For the last 20 years, I worked in public library systems around the Charlotte & Myrtle Beach areas. I met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. Follow along on my adventures as I travel the US. I hope that our paths will cross one day!

  8. There is something so magical about Glacier and all the animals that live there. Do you drive a bus like the red one in your photos? You are lucky to be up north wheee it is cool; the heat has been brutal this summer.
