Snow, Snow & More Snow in New Mexico

When I told people that I was headed to New Mexico for the winter, everyone assumed it would be hot & desert like.  Boy, were they wrong!

I knew I was going to be working at a ski resort in the Southern Rockies with lots of cold weather & snow. We’ve gotten well over 100 inches this season & it is coming down today. We average 300 inches, so we are hoping to get some accumulation.

We have gotten several inches in the last hour this morning!

The snowfall amounts are so different in the town of Taos & Taos Ski Valley. I live in the town of Taos, which gets a fraction of the snow they get at Taos Ski Valley. The elevation makes all the difference. The town is right at 7,000 feet. The base of Taos Ski Valley is over 9,200 feet & the highest point, Kachina Peak is at 12,481 feet!

Are you brave enough to ski Kachina? Watch at your own risk!

I can’t tell you how happy I am to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle! I haven’t had any issues getting around in the snow & my snow scraper is worth every penny.

My wardrobe now includes lots of socks, hats, gloves & scarves. I usually have on several layers of clothes. It takes some time getting dressed & undressed!

Stay tuned for more from New Mexico & Taos Ski Valley.

Hi! I am Christi, a full-time RV traveller since August 2021. I have always loved to travel, but COVID-19 put a stop to that. I was fast approaching 50, my condo was being placed up for sale and I was ready for a major change. Originally from a tiny town in rural Southwest Virginia, I am the mother to one son and a rescue Shih Tzu, Cappy. For the last 20 years, I worked in public library systems around the Charlotte & Myrtle Beach areas. I met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. Follow along on my adventures as I travel the US. I hope that our paths will cross one day!

  1. Okay Christie, Are you taking skiing lessons?
Wow, it looks like great skiing- I used to like
Big Sky, Montana, but this looks much better!

I just bicycled to Sunset Beach, but this mountain looks divine!

  2. It’s very pretty from afar, don’t like snow, don’t like to get stuck in it, it’s wet and cold, have to bundle up and wear wool, or silk thermals to stay warm, living in NYC, snow was horrible to deal with, I’m the opposite of people who hate the beach, sand and hot weather, but each his own pleasure, it’s pretty to look at from the beach lol, you enjoy it,
and keep posting, love to see all your adventures 👍❤️

  3. Hi Christi, thanks for sharing, I was trying to figure out what that dotted black line on the trail map was for Main St until I saw the video you posted. Looks good.
