Several years ago, I visited the Moco Museum in Amsterdam to see the Bansky exhibit, so I was excited to go to the Moco in Barcelona. It was the first place Michelle & I visited when we arrived in Barcelona.
What is the Moco?
The Moco Museum is an independent museum with a wide range of inspiring modern, contemporary, and street art – located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Barcelona, Spain.
Moco is the acronym for “Modern and Contemporary” museum.
Moco exhibits Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, KAWS, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Yayoi Kusama, Hayden Kays, David LaChapelle, Guillermo Lorca, Takashi Murakami, Nick Thomm, Andy Warhol, Studio Irma, and so many more.

As you enter the museum, contemporary art abounds. The colors are the first thing you notice.

We stood for quite a while, looking at one of the pieces by David LaChapelle. There are so many details and it draws you in for a closer look.

It was Andy Warhol who spotted David LaChapelle when he moved to NYC at the age of 17, hired him & the rest is history. Warhol was also on display at the Moco.

Banksy

“You paint 100 chimpanzees and they still call you a guerrilla artist.” Banksy

This post covers much of the still art in the museum. Part 2 of this post will dive into digital immersive art & fantasy. I hope you enjoy seeing these pieces as much as we did when we were there!

Thank you, Christi!

Hi Christi! I’m an author working with Lonely Planet, trying to get in touch with you about a photo you posted on Atlas Obscura a few years ago (of the Free Library in a Cottonwood Tree in Idaho.) I’m sorry to be posting here so randomly, but I could not find any other contact information for you online. If you can reply here, or email me back at helmuthdiana @ gmail dot com, that would be great. We are hoping to license the photo for print in a forthcoming book. This comment is my hail mary to try and get in touch with you haha. Thank you so much! – Diana Helmuth
